What is Ortho-K?+
Ortho-K, or orthokeratology, is a technique that uses special contact lenses overnight to temporarily reshape the cornea and improve daytime vision.
How much does Ortho-K cost?+
The assessment and tests cost €200. Lenses cost €290-360 each, with follow-up reviews and adjustments included. If they do not fit, you do not pay for the lenses.
How do overnight lenses work?+
They are inserted before sleep and gently reshape the corneal surface during the night. On removing them in the morning, many people can see more clearly during the day.
Does Ortho-K hurt?+
It does not usually cause pain. Some sensation may be noticed at first that normally disappears after a few nights of adaptation.
How long until it works?+
Some people notice changes from the first nights; stabilisation is usually reached over the first weeks.
Is the effect permanent?+
No. The effect is reversible and depends on continued use of the lenses.
Is it suitable for children?+
It can be an interesting option in selected children and teenagers, always after professional assessment and with regular follow-up.
Can it help with myopia control?+
Ortho-K can be part of myopia control strategies. Suitability must be assessed case by case.
Is it an alternative to surgery?+
It is a non-surgical and reversible option. It does not replace a medical indication nor is it suitable for everyone.
Can I play sports during the day without glasses?+
Many Ortho-K users can play sports without glasses or daytime lenses, depending on individual results.
Who cannot use Ortho-K?+
It is not suitable in cases of poor hygiene, eye infections, certain corneal alterations or prescriptions outside the usual range, among others.
What's the difference between Ortho-K and normal contact lenses?+
Conventional lenses are worn during the day. Ortho-K lenses are worn overnight and aim to improve daytime vision.
How often are check-ups needed?+
Follow-up is regular. The exact schedule will be set by the professional based on each case.
